Abstract

"Edge" piece on Portland's alternative-health scene. The city is host to well over 100 bodyworkers, 23 acupuncturists, three naturopathic physicians and a smattering of herbalists. The Polarity Realization Institute, located in the Atlantic Building on St. John Street, is Portland's only massage school, and teaches over 60 students at any given time. Other centers of the alternative include On Balance, a cooperative on Milk Street, and the Maharishi Vedic/Ayur Veda School on Forest Avenue. Details.
