Abstract

Related articles on beer, including an assessment of the best beers brewed in Maine; the state of the beer industry in Maine; prices of beer in a number of Portland stores; and a guide to the etiquette of drinking beer. The Lake St. George Brewing Co. in Liberty shut down in April after struggling for three years in an increasingly competitive climate. Six new breweries have opened in the last year, and the state's 24 breweries now account for five percent of all the beer consumed in Maine. Shipyard Brewing, D.L. Geary's, Sea Dog, Gritty McDuff's and Casco Bay all make 25-40 percent of their sales out of state.
