Abstract

The Salvation Army operates five thrift shops in Greater Portland and revenues after operating expenses are deducted is used exclusively to support the adult rehabilitation center on Preble Street in Portland.The Good Cause Thrift Shop at 693 Congress Street, operated by Catherine McAuley High School, in 1996 contributed around $38,000 to a scholarship fund. The 18 thrift shops operated by Goodwill Industries of Maine generate $1.6 million annually for group homes and people with handicaps.
