Abstract

Paul Madore of the Coalition to End Special Rights said he dosn't think an effort to place a citizens' veto of the state's new gay-rights law on the November ballot will succeed. The campaign needs 51,131 signatures by September 18. Gay activists David Garrity, Michael Rossetti and Paula Stockholm are circulating a pledge not to sign the people's veto, in an attempt to respond to anti-gay rhetoric by Madore and Michael Heath of the Christian Civic League of Maine.
