Abstract

Feature article on Portland as a tourist destination. Tourism in Maine contributes $3 billion annually to the economy, and more than one-third of that amount is generated along the stretch of coast between Kittery and Freeport. Recent civic initiatives like Hadlock Field, the arts district and the proposed aquarium have all included tourism as reasons why they should be supported. With comments from local tourism officials and actual tourists on the potential of Portland as a tourist destination.
