Abstract

"City" piece on health insurance coverage for domestic partners. L. L. Bean and the city of Portland don't offer health insurance for domestic partners, while Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Maine, Tufts Health Plan and Harvard Pilgrim offer the benefit to its members at no additional cost. Barry Horn, 38, a social worker at the VNA Hospice in South Portland, had his partner covered, but only after he and other employees in similar relationships approached the company's human resources department.
