Abstract

"City" piece on the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League. As of last week, the Pirates have been averaging 4,686 fans per game, a decline of around 1,000 from the same period last season. The team was once one of the top two or three teams in AHL attendance, but is now a distant ninth in the 18-team league. There have been rumors that the relationship between the Pirates and Portland could end after the current contract expires in 1999
