On November 3, South Portlanders will vote on a referendum to extend equal rights to residents regardles of sexual orientation. With details on the campaign, in which anti-gay forces have been relatively silent, and on the controversy between those who want to focus on a statewide law versus those who are trying to pass local ordinances. Voter apathy might be the biggest obstacle in this campaign. South Portland voted in favor of the state antidiscrimination law in February.
