Abstract

"Politics and Other Mistakes" piece on the re-election race that U.S. senator Olympia Snowe faces in 2000, which could be a real challenge because anti-abortion extremists want to punish Snowe for her pro-choice position and her votes against banning late-term abortions. Snowe and her colleague Sen. Susan Collins are almost alone among Republicans in their continued opposition to restrictions on a woman's right to choose. The right wing of the state's Republican Party is now searching for a candidate to challenge Snowe in the 2000 primary.
