Abstract

"Politics and Other Mistakes" piece on Maine's wrestlers and other professional athletes who, like Minnesota's Jesse "The Body" Ventura, could decide to use their popularity to win elected offices. At least two wrestlers are on the list including Scott "Too Hot" Taylor of Windham, and Portland art dealer Robert Elowitch, who uses the pseudonym Robbie Ellis in the ring. Also on the list are race car driver Ricky Craven, shortstop Mike Bordick, skier Julie Parisien, runner Joan Benoit Samuelson, and basketball player Cindy Blodgett. With commentary on former state Representative and House Speaker John Martin, who returned to the state legislature this year after being forced out by the term limits law.
