Abstract

"City" piece on the Treasure Chest, an adult book and video store in Portland with a window display considered so obscene by Reiche School teacher Jackie Harkins that Harkins complained to the police department. But Portland police say the window's contents don't fit the city's legal definition of obscene. Deputy police chief Bill Ridge said the complaint was the third from Reiche teachers this year and an officer was sent to photograph the offensive exhibit. Vincenzo DePaolo, owner of the store, has been fined several times over the years for violating the city's obscenity ordinance and he claims this is part of a renewed attempt by police chief Michael Chitwood to try and shut him down.
