Abstract

"City" piece on the Superior Court, which occupies about 10,000-square-feet of space in the old Cumberland County courthouse building in Portland, and since the mid-'70s, has paid just $200 per month in rent to the county. At current market value, that space would be close to $120,000 annually. County officials from across the state were scheduled to meet with state Chief Justice Daniel Wathen on Aug. 31 to discuss raising the rates, which can only be done by the Legislature because it will require rewriting the law.
