Abstract

"So Noted" piece on the Portland Arts District, which is being threatened by the boom economy that is raising the value of Portland real estate to the point where Portland artists and arts organizations are being orced out by businesses willing to pay higher rents. Because the city has played a significant role in establishing the Portland Arts District, it should establish a task force to consider ideas on how to preserve the district. Particular attention should be paid to real estate costs because the arts cannot continue to flourish, if arts organizations cannot afford to pay the rent.
