Abstract

"City" piece on a proposal by Bangor developer Kevin Mahaney and his Olympic Equity Investors to eliminate the right-turn lane off the Franklin Arterial at Commercial Street in Portland. Mahaney is developing a hotel on Portland's waterfront that is expected to open in 2001. While Portland city officials do not object to the proposal, Maine Department of Transportation officials are more hesitant to support the idea because of concerns about maintaining the capacity of the intersection to handle heavy traffic.
