Abstract

"Politics and Other Mistakes" piece on presidential candidates Al Gore and George W. Bush for pandering for votes by visiting public schools in Portland and Lewiston, where they expressed concerns about school reform; state represenative Gerald Davis, a Falmouth Republican, and a devout Catholic, who has flip- lopped on the November civil rights bill, which praised once praised in a letter to the Forecaster newspaper but now says he won't support; and on Richard Eaton, the Libertarian party's candidate for the state House seat from Westbrook, who says he opposes the upcoming referendum granting civil rights to homosexuals but doesn't oppose same-sex marriage.
