Abstract

"City" piece on Portland property taxes, which could be much higher in 2001. City Councilor Jim Cloutier, chair of the council's finance committee, is warning that if municipal leaders don't find a way to cover an anticipated budget shortfall of between $8 and $15 million, property owners could see their taxes increase by as much as $3 per $1,000 of assessed value. With details concerning specific problems projected by the finance committee.
