Abstract

"City" piece on Grace Valenzuela, 43, the Portland School Department's new assistant to the superintendent for multicultural affairs. Valenzuela, a native of the Philippines whose first language is Tagalog, was a coordinator for the school system's multilingual program,. She said her experiences as a woman of color and as an educator will enable her to bring a unique perspective to the job.
