Abstract

"So Noted" piece on the space crunch at the Cumberland County Jail. Opened in July 1994, the $25 million prison was designed to serve the county adequately until sometime between 2011 and 2020. Now, Sheriff Mark Dion predicts the jail will run out of room in 2004. In 2000, the average daily population was 345 at a jail that can hold only 393 inmates.
