Abstract

"Cover Story" piece on Portland police sergeant Sullivan Rizzo, who works part-time as a wrecker driver for Nappi's Towing, a company co-owned by his wife that routinely receives towing business referrals from the police and public works departments. The arrangement may be a violation of the Portland Police Department's rules. Allegations that Rizzo used his position within the department to benefit his wife's company were raised by James W. Fletcher of South Portland, who co-owns Nappi's Towing with Rizzo's wife Sandra and is locked in a legal dispute with his partner over control of the company. Also under investigation is a company called Metro Towing, another towing company owned by Sandra Rizzo that employs her husband, Sullivan Rizzo, as a part-time driver.
