Abstract

"City" piece on a new state law that gives county sheriffs the authority to decide whether and when inmates of county facilities can participate in work-release programs, perform community service or get out of jail under electronic supervision. The law went into effect on Sept. 21 and will remain on the books for one year, at which point it will be reviewed by the Legislature. With comments by Cumberland County sheriff Mark Dion.
