Abstract

"City" piece in which Chris Barry interviews Jay Houghton, a registered nurse and the chairperson of the Maine People's Alliance's health care coordinating committee, Houghton discusses the repercussions of the Portland's November 6 non-binding referendum, which called upon the Portland City Council to endorse the concept of a single-payer, universal health-care system; her perspective on the current health-care situation; and the impact of Anthem insurance company, which underwrites approximately 70 percent of Maine's health-care insurance.
