Abstract

The Portland Area Comprehensive Transportation Study Committee on August 18 released the results of a two-year study. Predictions are that if local driving habits don't change, the number of congested roadways in the Greater Portland area will more than double by 2015. PACTS' recommendations to get cars off the streets include an express bus network from Brunswick to Biddeford, 50 miles of new bicycle lanes, the creation of car-pooling lanes and doubling the current rideshare program.
