Abstract

"City" piece on the Maine Mall in South Portland, where Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group took over management on Feb. 1 and is trying to attract high-brow shops in order to bring in richer shoppers. Currently, there are 107 stores and 20 carts at the Mall. Some of the Mall's older businesses say they've been evicted, and others are nervous about their future. The Maine Mall has three owners: S. R. Weiner of Chestnut Hill, Mass., Connecticut General Insurance and the New York State Teachers Retirement Fund, which collectively call themselves Maine Associates.
