Abstract

Bob Ludwig, 49, has a set of ears so fine that Bruce Springsteen, Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed and countless other musicians have brought their unfinished albums to him for mastering. Ludwig was with Masterdisk, the preeminent East Coast mastering studio, for 17 years. In January 1993, he moved to Portland to start Gateway Mastering Studios. The city recently funded a $50,000 ad campaign aimed at the music industry, and Ludwig will tout Portland at the annual Audio-Engineering Society convention in November.
