Abstract

Friends of Casco Bay and other environmental groups in Maine joined over 350 groups nationwide in calling for the federal Environmental Protection Agency to ban the production of dioxin. The groups are urging the EPA to ban the use of chlorine in paper manufacturing within five years; to phase out the use of chlorine in the manufacturing of solvents and plastics; to ban the startup of new incinerators and the expansion of existing ones; and to require publicly accessible reporting for dioxin.
