Abstract

Former U.S. represenative Tom Andrews on January 21 addressed a gathering of peace activists in Portland, his first address to Mainers since his defeat in the November elections. Andrews admitted begrudging respect for House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia, and said left-wing Democrats need to take lessons from Gingrich's rise to power. Andrews also said that he had declined an offer from Green Party candidate Jonathan Carter to register as a Green.
