Abstract

In recent years, NYNEX has laid 50,000 miles of fiber optic cable in Maine. Maine Public Advocate Steve Ward investigated, and after finding that the company was positioning itself for an entry into the cable TV market called for a $64 million rate reduction. Recent moves by Time Warner Cable to increase rates have angered customers, and some of them are saying that NYNEX getting into the cable market will be a good thing. Details, related article on the Maine Telecommunications Forum, a diverse group of NYNEX customers that doesn't want the information superhighway to bypass Maine.
