Abstract

The Maine People's Alliance and the Money and Politics Project on June 19 asked the Portland City Council to vote on a non-binding resolution endorsing campaign-finance reform, but the council refused to put the resolution on the agenda. Portland Mayor Jack Dawson decided against voting on the item because it was too political, and only remotely related to city business. Dawson said he supported campaign finance reform, but other councilors were not comfortable with the proposal.
