Abstract

Maine's wetlands could be under attack if legislation in Congress is enacted. The U.S. House of Representatives has passed legislation that drastically redefines wetlands and what can be done with them, and the U.S. Senate will consider a similar bill. Greg Hellyer of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency concluded that some 5.7 million acres of wetlands, 70 percent of Maine's total, could be affected by the legislation. Details.
