Abstract

"The Talk of Maine" piece on official Maine Department of Transportation statistics for car-deer collisions. In 2000, there were 3,942 of them, with almost a quarter of them in York and Cumberland counties. Various surveys indicate that the true number is at least six to seven times the reported figures. With a list of the number of reported accidents in each of Maine's 16 counties from 1995 through 2000.
