Abstract

Feature article on the authentic Down East appeal of the coastal village of Jonesport, population 1,400. Incorporated in 1832, Jonesport has some impressive Victorian homes, but for the most part is dominated by the twisting and rocky shoreline. Jonesport native Captain Barna B. Norton has been working for years to secure nearby Machias Seal Island--now a part of Canada--as part of the territorial United States. A visit to the area should include a trip to Beals and Great Wass Islands
