Abstract

Feature article on the town of Orono, which offers much more than just the flagship campus of the University of Maine system. For Orono residents, the town offers a traditional downtown, the Maine Center for the Arts, two National Historic Districts, an active local land trust and an unusually diverse population. This profile is also a big selling point as the town tries to attract taxpaying industries to its technology park, whose tenants currently include MBNA, Microdyne, and Sensor Research and Development. With comments by Roberta and John Bradson, owners of The Store and Ampersand.
