Abstract

Profile of Arthur Davis, 56, who started Maine Bonsai Gardens at his home in Woolwich in 1992, taking the risk of turning his hobby into a business. Last October, he was named Minority Small Business Person of the Year for the State of Maine and projected his gross annual sales to be about $300,000. Maine's winters are favorable for the cultivation of bonsai, and an active bonsai association has developed in the Bangor area. With details on how Davis's business evolved after he left a secure job with Digital Equipment Corp. in Augusta.
