Abstract

"Along the Waterfront" piece on: John Brooks of Mount Desert Island, a builder of small boats, including Hinckley yachts; fifteen -year-old Portland Yacht Club sailors, Peter Levesque of Falmouth and Nichol Ernst of Cape Elizabeth, who finished third in a Bemis Cup competition off Chicago last summer; and the late John Gardner, a Maine native, author, activist, disillusioned socialist, and leading guru of the traditional small-boat revival.
