Abstract

An article by a "reluctant snowmobiler," who rented a sled from Moosehead Snowmobile Rentals in Greenville. Snowmobiling has become a more family-oriented, sociable sport than it once was. The Pine Tree Society for Handicapped Children and Adults has become the charity of choice for most snowmobile clubs in Maine. The average snowmobiler rides 1,400 miles on the trails each year, and the business is a winter bonanza for local merchants. An average of 5,000 new sleds were sold annually in Maine during the past few years.
