Abstract

"Dining Down East" piece on River Drivers restaurant, which Matthew and Wendy Polstein added to their Millinocket-based New England Outdoor Center, a thriving rafting, snowmobiling, and camping business. Despite its location, the restaurant hosts five-course dinners for 80 gourmets at a time, with a focus on seafood. Matthew Polstein is a Portland native who grew up in Yarmouth. Will Griffin, the first chef, was an avid fisherman and a fine cook, who made an almost-immediate impact. After he left, the Polsteins lost several chefs before recruiting Herman Ammerman, an enthusiastic hiker who has been with them for six years.
