Abstract

"As I See It" piece on Maine's license plate slogan, "Vacationland," which has acted as a moving advertisement since 1936. Sen. Frank MacKenzie from West Outlet Township introduced the successful bill for the slogan. Maine's best hopes for job-creation are in the recreation and retirement industries. Natives who have lived and worked here all their lives and "professional imports" want to remove the slogan from the state plate. Maine, as Vacationland, is a "fully branded" product, and now, more than ever, needs its slogan.
