Abstract

An article on The Cat, the fastest car ferry in North America. It has transformed the journey between Bar Harbor and Nova Scotia into a three-hour thrill ride and doubled ridership during its first year of service. The ship's modern and plush interior and smooth ride keep most passengers unaware of the speed at which they are traveling. Whale sightings are a frequent occurrence. Captain Stephen Johnson calls the ship a "big Jet Ski." The ferry removes almost a full day of travel between Maine and Canada. With details on a day trip to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
