"The Talk of Maine" piece with statistics on the typical Mainer, noting that the U.S. Census Bureau reports that a third of Maine's 1,275,000 people was born outside of the state. Fifty-one percent of the state's population is female, and 96.9 percent of the population is white. With additional observations on Mainers by entertainer Tim Sample and Sue Steer, head buyer for Brunswick's Bookland.
