Abstract

"Along the Waterfront" piece about the belief of John Marshall, a partner of Southwest Harbor's Hinckly Company and a man who has been involved in America's Cup racing since 1974, thatit is technology that will retain the cup for the United States in stiff international competition off San Diego next May. Marshall is president and general manager of PACT 95, the Bangor-based syndicate that is one of three teams vying for the right to defend the cup next year. Marshall has assembled a formidable design and construction team to help put Maine's cup sailors, led by Bangor's Olympic medalist Kevin Mahaney, out front in the domestic elimination rounds beginning in January and in the final international showdown in May. With some details on the technology that Marshall hopes will give the Maine team the edge.
