Abstract

"Down East Bookshelf" piece reviewing the recently reissued "Arundel," written by Kenneth Roberts and published by Down East Books. The historical novel is based on Benedict Arnold's failed assault on Quebec during the Revolutionary War. When it was first published in 1930, the book made Roberts' reputation as a novelist and went through numerous reprintings in several languages. Roberts, who lived from 1885 to 1957, spent many of those years in Kennebunk.
