Abstract

"North by East" piece on the Tibbetts Bridge between Wells and Ogunquit, which has been replaced over the years and is no longer used for vehicular traffic. It was originally built 338 years ago and was once called the First Bridge, because it is believed to be the first official bridge ever built in Maine. The two towns voted $1,000 each to rebuild the span as a footbridge, with the potential of later upgrading it for vehicular traffic.
