Abstract

"North by East" piece on the Cosmic Hippo, the first coffeehouse in Maine to offer Internet access on an in-house computer linked to the popular electronic network. Ed Bremer, co-owner of the Cosmic Hippo, partnered with Todd Smith, a local computer consultant, on the venture. Customers pay seventy-five cents for their first ten minutes of computer time and a quarter for each additional three minutes, for a total of about five dollars an hour.
