Abstract

Home-health companies from Fort Kent to Kittery are offering everything from chemotherapy for infants to physical therapy for the elderly, all in the comfort of the patient's home. Waldo County Home Health Care Services of Belfast has a staff of 60 nurses, therapists and nurse practitioners who minister to around 250 patients and make 1,600 home visits a month. Maine had 41 licensed home-health agencies in 1991, but by late 1994 state officials had licensed 61 with another 37 applicants going through the regulatory approval process.
