Abstract

"North by East" piece on the long-awaited development of Bangor's vast and venerable Freese's Department Store building. Camden-based Realty Resources Chartered recently bought the rear third of the six-story Main Street landmark to renovate as senior citizen apartments, and the Northern Conservatory of Music plans to purchase the front two-thirds for its proposed school of the arts. With a history of the building, which stood empty for about a decade and a half until the city seized it for unpaid taxes in 1994.
