Abstract

Although Maine's pre-colonial Europeans arrived during what climatologists call the Little Ice Age, the period from 1970 to 1945 was one of the warmest in human history. Nonetheless, folklore has it that Maine winters aren't as rough as they used to be, and period photos depict snow that would be almost unheard-of today. Details.
