Abstract

Article on the Richmond Sauna, located near Richmond Corner, at the Richmond Bed and Breakfast. The property consists of a farmhouse and a collection of handmade structures including a bathhouse, hot tub and domed pool. After baking in the soothing heat of one of the seven sauna rooms, guests can jump into the eighty-degree waters of a pool, or sit in a hot tub. Clothes are optional throughout the facility, but proprietor Richard Jarvi ensures that a sense of decorum prevails. Jarvi, who is of Finnish decent, designed his sauna to replicate Finnish saunas and their function as a social phenomenon.
