Abstract

"North by East" piece on Room 807 at the Sheraton Tara hotel in South Portland, where Elvis Presley stayed on May 24, 1977, when he was in Maine for a concert at the Augusta Civic Center. He autographed the bottom of his bathroom sink, which a hotel maid won in a raffle in 1999 when the hotel was remodeled. He was booked to stay at the hotel on Aug. 16, 1977, for a concert in Portland, but he died the day he was due to return to Maine.
