Abstract

Of the 11,000 weddings that took place last year in Maine, 15 percent were for couples from away. Sheila Stone, at the Beachmere in Ogunquit, has had to limit the number of weekend-long weddings at the hotel so as not to disturb her regular guests. She notes that each wedding begets other weddings because of the hotel's visibility on Marginal Way. Maine provides a picturesque backdrop, and many people have ties to the state from childhood summers. With photos of the wedding of Emily Anderson and her husband Alden, whose guests spent the entire weekend celebrating before and after the wedding, which was held at Spurwink Chapel in Cape Elizabeth.
