Abstract

An article profiling five Registered Maine Guides, with descriptions of their specialties, which go beyond the hunting and fishing skills of times past. Greg Drummond, 51, owner of the Claybrook Mountain Lodge near Kingfield and a Master Maine Guide, guides birdwatchers, mountain bikers, cross country skiers, hunters, and fishermen. Guide Jeff Bellmore, 50, a boat captain licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard and owner of Warren-based Georges River Guide Service, has one of the state's new tidewater fishing guide licenses. Cathy Piffath, 44, an Auburn native, and partner Jeff Cooper, lead a 24-employee guiding service, H2O Outfitters of Orr's Island, overseeing sea kayak trips along the East Coast and in Europe and Japan. Wayne Bosowicz, 60, of Sebec, founded Foggy Mountain Guide Service and has become the dean of bear hunting in the country. Guide Rod McGarry, 66, who guides under the name of Fly Fishing Boot Camp, helps people learn to fish and uses his skills as a contract employee for L.L. Bean.
